The Texas Chess Association is pleased to announce the creation of 15 new committees to support our mission of promoting chess throughout Texas. Committees ensure dedicated focus in key areas, such as improving member benefits or expanding chess education. They help make decisions more efficiently, involve more members in the work, and ensure accountability. They also allow the TCA to adapt to new challenges and develop future leaders within the organization.

The new and existing committees include:

  • Audit Committee: Reviews the financial records of the Association at least annually, conducts other investigations as necessary, and advises the President when requested. An accounting background is required.
  • Accessibility Committee: Focuses on making chess more accessible to everyone, including individuals with disabilities. Works to remove barriers and create inclusive opportunities for participation.
  • Bylaws Committee: Reviews and updates the bylaws periodically and makes recommendations to the membership on bylaws amendments.
  • Clubs Committee: Supports the establishment, growth, and maintenance of chess clubs across Texas, providing resources, guidance, and networking opportunities.
  • College Committee: Promotes chess at the collegiate level, facilitating tournaments, clubs, and partnerships with colleges and universities.
  • Development Committee: Develops relationships with donors and strategic partners, seeking sponsorships, grants, and donations to fund TCA’s activities.
  • Finance Committee: Prepares the annual budget, develops financial plans, monitors financial progress, and oversees cash flow management.
  • Membership Committee: Supports membership recruitment and makes recommendations on membership issues, with a goal of growing membership to 3,000 by September 2026.
