Dear TCA members,
Since there has not been an in-person Texas Scholastic Championship this year, we will have a TCA Junior Chess Meeting on Sunday, May 16, 2021 at 10am. All TCA members are welcome to this meeting, so please spread the word. This meeting will last approximately 90 minutes and the Zoom meeting waiting room will “open” at 9:30 so that the TCA Secretary can verify the TCA membership of the attendees. The meeting will be recorded by her. The agenda will focus only on issues related to Texas Junior Chess.
Below are the voting rules for this meeting:
1. Amendments of Bylaws that relate directly to Junior Chess may only be approved by an affirmative vote of at least two-thirds of the voting Members. Discussion of other proposed Bylaws changes may be held and a straw poll may be taken, but all other Bylaws changes shall be voted on at the Annual Meeting.
2. Transaction of other business on issues that relate directly to Junior Chess may be approved by a majority vote of the voting Members.
3. All bylaws changes that do not directly relate to junior chess shall be voted on at the Annual Membership Meeting. Such bylaws changes may be discussed at the Annual Junior Chess meeting, and non-binding votes may be taken.
The day before the meeting, on Saturday at 10am we will have the round robin playoff to select the Texas Representatives to the US Chess National Invitational events: the Denker National Tournament of High School State Champions, the Barber National Tournament of Middle School State Champions, the Rockefeller National Tournament of Elementary Schools State Champions, and the Haring National Tournament of Girls State Champions. The participants of these playoffs were selected based on the results of the 2021 Texas Scholastic Chess Championships that took place online on April 3rd. As always, our representatives will be awarded a TCA stipend to help with their travel expenses to the US Open. Not related to Scholastic Chess but related to the US Chess Invitational events, we will also select our representative to the Irvin National Tournament of Senior State Champions, but this will be done by invitation, using our top rating list for seniors.
Thanks for your support of the Texas Chess Association and, most importantly, your support of our players!
