CM Tim Steiner
Like so many of us, our Player of the Month learned chess from his Father. His brothers also learned the game but didn’t develop the same passion level. Life offers many interests for young people. He grew up with the same distractions as his brothers. But, his fascination and love for the game always brought him back into focus.
His game became stronger and stronger, until he finally achieved FIDE Candidate Master distinction. Today he is a US Chess Life Member and rated Expert. He is ranked in the 96th percentile for all USA chess players and in the 98th percentile for all Texans.
Along his life journey he developed a second passion; to teach and mentor others to become strong chess players. He currently coaches 18 students and has coached as many as 48. He’s a Tournament Director (24 tournaments as Chief TD) and an excellent Organizer. He has the knack for recruiting top notch staff to help with his tournaments.
Raised in Kansas. Made a smart move to DFW about four years ago for economic reasons. Now he’s ours; a Texan making a difference for all Texas chess players. For all these reasons we at Texas Chess Association proudly welcome and salute Chess Expert Tim Steiner as our Player of the Month for January 2020.
If you know someone who should be a Player of the Month tell us. Send your email to txchessfacebook@gmail.com. Current TCA membership required.
Mr. Steiner also runs a great scholastic chess event in Arlington several times each year. He is really great with the kids, and the tournaments run quickly, smoothly, and on-time. I am glad to see him getting some recognition.
