The Texas Chess Association is developing a new Awards Program, including plans for a Texas Chess Hall of Fame, to recognize the incredible individuals and organizations shaping the future of chess in Texas. But before anything is finalized, we want to hear from you.

We’re inviting our community—players, coaches, organizers, parents, volunteers, and supporters—to join the Recognitions Committee or share your ideas to help shape the structure, categories, and process for the awards.

Why This Matters

Texas chess is thriving because of the passionate people who dedicate their time and energy to the game. The goal of this new awards program is to celebrate that work, and we believe the best way to do that is by building it together with input from the community.

Draft Categories (Open for Feedback)

These are early ideas to help start the conversation:

  • Member of the Year
  • Organizer of the Year
  • Coach of the Year
  • Volunteer of the Year

We want to know:
What’s missing? What should we change? How should winners be selected and recognized?

How to Get Involved

There are a few ways you can contribute:

  • Join the Recognitions Committee to help shape the program from the inside
  • Submit your feedback by filling out the Feedback Form
  • Share award ideas or suggestions for criteria, nomination, and recognition

Whether you have time to serve or just want to share a few thoughts, your voice is valued.

What’s Next

Our goal is to finalize the categories and structure soon so we can begin accepting nominations for this year’s awards. The Recognitions Committee will carefully incorporate community feedback to ensure the program reflects the values and spirit of Texas chess.

Let’s build something meaningful together.
