Over the Memorial Day weekend, Vijay Srinivas Anandh scored 5.5 points in seven rounds at the Luis Salinas 79th Annual Texas State and Amateur Championships in Fort Worth to finish first and be named Texas State Champion. Four players tied for second, including IM Zurab Javakhadze, Kevin Qin, Elbert Fang, and Joshua Meng. Yukta Sri Mididoodi had 6.5 out of 7 to win the Amateur section and the title of Texas Amateur Champion.
The four-day event, named in memory of long-time TCA organizer Luis Salinas, was organized by the Alliance Chess Club, Arlington Chess Club, and Tarrant County Chess Club.
