Jim Hollingsworth was named 2018 Texas Armed Forces Champion, Charles Fricks was named 2018 Texas Millitary Veterans Champion, and Ron Farrar was named 2018 Texas Legacy Champion at the 2018 Texas Armed Forces and Military Veterans Open held at Hills College in Hillsboro, Texas. The Armed Forces Championship included active Military and Retired Military. The Military Veterans Championship was open to veterans. The Texas Legacy was open to active, retired, or veterans with a Texas connection. Players in all three championships were combined in a single section four-round tournament held recently. The event was organized by Serious Chess Players.

Three other state organizations authorized the awarding of military champions for their organizations. Neil Naputo was named Oklahoma Armed Forces Champion. David Hater was named Georgia Armed Forces Champion. Tom Boyd was named CalChess Armed Forces Champion.

Arlington Chess Club President Chris Wood was Chief Tournament Director. Jeffrey Spyrison from the Waco Chess Club was Games Judge. Dale Chaney, from Fort Worth, provided outstanding logistics support as Adjutant and helped out wherever needed, including “House Player.”
