The new bylaws allows the Vice President to appoint Assistant Vice Presidents. We welcome your applications for this new volunteer opportunity. You can apply here.
Ideally, there will be three Assistant Vice Presidents who will work as a team with the Vice President. They will be the principal assistants and advisors to the Vice President, supporting him across many areas of TCA business. It is a very flexible role that adapts to the needs of the moment and empowers volunteers to take on new initiatives and projects as needed. Examples of what this might look like include:
- Finding bidders for TCA events and new TCA volunteers
- Supporting the annual awards program, elections and special contests
- Helping the Vice President lead the Texas delegation at US Chess Delegate meetings
- Assisting the Vice President with his policy focuses for next year (i.e., increasing the number of chess players in Texas, growing TCA memberships and creating alternative ways to engage with chess)
- Pursuing and implementing your own ideas to serve the Texas chess community
While it is expected that Assistant Vice Presidents will be very helpful and impactful in their own right, this opportunity also exists to develop the next generation of chess leaders and help them serve in more meaningful ways in the future. Appointees will receive specialized attention, mentoring and support from the Vice President and will be kept in mind for other opportunities that be valuable to them in the future. With this in mind, preference will be given to high school and college students who are interested in serving the Texas chess community for the long-term.
The Vice President will interview and appoint applicants. This is a one-year commitment, expiring at the 2027 annual membership meeting. Assistant Vice Presidents may be reappointed annually and serve at the pleasure of the Vice President.
The application deadline is 11:59pm on Friday, August 14.
