The TCA Board of Directors unanimously agreed to appoint Kirk Tribes and Jonathan Huerta as directors for a term expiring at the end of the 2026 annual membership meeting.

Under the new bylaws, the number of voting board members immediately increased from four to six and will reach eight by 2028. The Board’s appointment is only temporary and the new board members will be up for election later this year. The winners of this year’s election will serve for a four-year term.

Kirk Tribes is from Beaumont, Texas. He has been married to his wife, Evette for ten years and has two sons. Kirk learned to play chess when he was eight or nine years old. He served as the President of the LU Chess Club for five years in college and leads a local faith-based chess organization known as the Southeast Texas Chess Association. Kirk also serves on the TCA Audit and Ethics Committees.

Jonathan Huerta has been involved in chess since the age of eight, where he quickly developed a passion for the game through competition. Guided by longtime coach and mentor Russell Trevino, Jonathan grew not only as a player but as a coach dedicated to developing young talent. After high school, he began coaching and has since developed a strong passion for student growth and development through chess. Jonathan now serves as Region VIII Director and leads the United Warriors Chess Foundation, focusing on creating more opportunities for students to play, compete, and grow through the game.
