The Scholastic Chair leads the Scholastic Committee and is TCA’s scholastic coordinator for US Chess purposes. The committee is responsible for advising the Board of Directors on scholastic issues and promoting scholastic chess throughout Texas. The chair is responsible for maximizing the effectiveness of the committee, including coordinating committee meetings, supporting scholastic representatives as they grow scholastic chess in their regions and ensuring that any motions or projects referred to the committee are addressed in a timely and thoughtful manner. The chair is expected to attend the annual junior chess meeting and report on behalf of the committee at that meeting.
The Scholastic Chair is appointed by the President. Candidates may be interviewed if necessary. TCA membership is required. Previous involvement in scholastic chess as a player, parent, coach, tournament director or organizer is strongly preferred.
The application deadline is 11:59pm on June 26.
