Sometimes, organizers and TDs allow players to participate in our rated events and do not check the US Chess membership status online prior to the event, as they should. From time to time, US Chess suspends or revokes memberships, for numerous reasons and incidents that have been brought to the attention of their leadership. Therefore, even if a player presents a current US Chess membership card, there is no guarantee that the membership is, indeed, current.

Allowing a player who is not a US Chess current member to play in a rated event may cause issues that, at times, may be difficult to resolve. I urge each chess organizer and tournament director to exercise due diligence and check memberships online prior to the start of any rated event.
