The time for the annual TCA board election is nearly here! The election rules have changed significantly under the new bylaws, so please carefully read the details below.

The membership will elect two directors for four-year terms at this year’s election. The terms of Kirk Tribes and Jonathan Huerta are expiring, so their seats will be contested this year.

To be eligible to run for the Board, you must be at least 16 years of age, a Texas resident and have been a TCA member for at least one year. Your TCA membership must be current at the time of filing. If you want to be included in the ballot, you must complete the candidate filing form by June 1. You can become a candidate here.

The timeline for the election is as follows:

  • Candidate filing deadline: June 1
  • Deadline to become a member for voting purposes: June 30
  • Candidate statement submission deadline: July 7
  • Voting Begins: August 1
  • Voting Ends: August 23
  • New directors take office: September 5

As in previous years, voting will be conducted through Election Buddy. Paper ballots will no longer be accepted. The Secretary, Dora Jara, is the Election Chair and will oversee the voting process. Election results will be announced at the annual membership meeting.

If you are interested in running for the Board, it is recommended that you read the bylaws and consult with existing board members to better understand what the role involves. Board members are expected to attend monthly board meetings, attend other important meetings (such as quarterly meetings of the Council of Advisors), participate in board discussions/votes between meetings and serve on at least one committee. Ideally, board members should be actively involved in other ways as well, such as working at major TCA events, serving as a US Chess Delegate, responding to member correspondence or initiating new projects and initiatives.
