Scoring six and half points in the 7-round, IM Hans Niemann, from Connecticut, took first place in the 75th Annual Texas State and Amateur Championship. IM Zurab Javakhadze, who scored 5.5, finished second and was named Texas State Champion as he was the highest finishing Texan in the field of 20 players in the Championship Section. Eric Tipton was named Texas Amateur Champion by winning the Amateur section with 6.5 points.
Seventy-eight players competed in the two sections and nine competed in the scholastic side event. The event was organized by the Dallas Chess Club and held at the DFW Airport Marriott South in Fort Worth, Texas over the last weekend of November. Many COVID-19 Precautions were observed during this heritage event.
